The short answer

Website maintenance costs depend on your site's size, how it was built, and how much you want handled. Prices range from very cheap plans that do almost nothing to full service care. The right price is the one that matches what your site needs.

I don't post a flat price, because it would be wrong for most sites. I quote after I look at yours. Here's what moves the number, and what to watch for.

Five things that set the cost

Site size

A five-page site takes less care than a 50-page site with a store or a booking system.

How it was built

A clean custom site needs less upkeep than a template site with 30 plugins that all need updates.

What you want handled

Security and backups are the base. Content changes, SEO checks, and reports add more.

How fast you need changes

A 48-hour turnaround costs less than same-day service.

Where the site stands today

An older site may need a cleanup first, before regular care starts.

What cheap plans often leave out

Backups you can restore

Some plans say "backups" but never test them. When something breaks, they can't bring the site back.

Real security work

Many cheap plans only run a scan. Nobody fixes what it finds.

Content changes

Often each change costs extra, or goes into a ticket queue for days.

A person who knows your site

You get whoever is on shift. They have never seen your site before.

Questions to ask any provider

  • Who actually works on my site?
  • How often are backups made, and where are they stored?
  • How fast do you fix something that breaks?
  • Are content changes included, or billed extra?
  • Is there a contract, and what happens if I cancel?
  • Do I get my files and backups if I leave?

A good provider answers all six in plain words. See what I include on my website maintenance page. If your site is too old to be worth the upkeep, a redesign may cost less over time.

Common questions

How much does website maintenance cost?

It depends on the site's size, how it was built, and what you want handled. I give you one fixed monthly price after I look at your site. It's month to month, with no contract.

Why don't you list your prices?

Two sites that look alike can need very different care. A price on a page would be wrong for most people. A short conversation gets you the right number.

Is website maintenance really necessary?

Yes, if your site brings in leads. Unpatched sites get hacked, forms stop working, and pages slow down. You often find out only after you lose business.

What does a basic plan include?

Security updates, off-site backups, and uptime and speed monitoring. Content updates and SEO upkeep are the next level up.

Can you maintain a site someone else built?

In most cases, yes. I audit it first. If it's on something I can't support, I tell you and point you to someone who can.
